Overview:

The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) is a major initiative by ADACH and is managed by KITAB a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and the Frankfurt Book Fair. KITAB’s aim is to develop and promote reading and the book and publishing industry in Abu Dhabi and the neighbouring Arab countries.

Growth

ADIBF is one of the fastest-growing and most professionally organised publishing event in the Arab World. The show, which originally started in a modest marquee with 70 exhibitors, is today staged at ADNEC (Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre) attracting participants from all over the world.

The event has witnessed dramatic growth over the last five years - from 6000sqm of exhibit space in 2006 to 21741sqm at the last edition in 2011. Exhibitor numbers have reached 875, from 575 exhibitions in 2006. Participating countries have gone up to 58, from just 19 countries in 2006.

In 2011, the event showcased over half a million titles and welcomed more than 200,000 visitors including 1250 specially-invited guests including writers, authors and publishers. 400 media outlets from 70 countries covered the event.

The expansive, state-of-the-art facilities at ADNEC have supported the growth of the event allowing the show to flow seamlessly across halls. The 408-room Aloft Abu Dhabi hotel, which is inter-connected with the exhibition centre, has been of immense benefit for both exhibitors and visitors.  In addition, the two covered-car parks at ADNEC (6,000-vehicle capacity) as well as the well-planned road network around the venue have greatly enhanced traffic flow enabling this major event to thrive.

Future plans

The 22nd edition of ADIBF which is set to take place 28 March – 2 April 2012, will add an additional hall to the four that were taken up by exhibitors at the previous edition. In the coming weeks leading up the show, show organisers are set to unveil a number of innovative features that will underscore the show’s preeminent status as one of the most ambitious and fastest-growing events for the publishing industry.

The opening of the Abu Dhabi International Airport Check-In facilities at ADNEC, and availability of hundreds of Abu Dhabi hotel rooms - including the ADNEC-owned, 189-room, 5-star Hyatt Capital Gate Abu Dhabi inter-connected with the venue, will provide added convenience to overseas visitors at ADIBF 2012.
